I have an 83 cv80, I am attempting to soak my carb in some cleaner. There is one last piece I am having trouble removing, at the top of the carb I removed the 3 screw and removed the top diaphragm, there is a nylon or plastic ring that is set on the bottom half with another part of the diaphragm (I am just guessing) that is held in place by the plastic ring. Is there a safe way to remove both of these pieces so I don't destroy the rubber soaking it?? I cant seem to figure out how to post a pic, I've tried. thanks
shane

I am trying to look for a correct breakdown with my carb so I can be a little better at describing what I am looking at...

well. I've cleaned the carb and put it back on the scooter, I just didn't soak all the way up to where the diaphragm sets. The carb gets gas now at least, it has a leak now too but guessing it should just be the float bowl gasket or the float bowl needle valve not seating....we shall see.

well, I finally found a pic that showed a breakdown of my carb. What I found out was, the piece I was trying to remove with the diaphragm is the plunger. (kinda reminds me of my accelerator pump on my old 74 Sportster I had) The plastic ring I had to figure out how to remove is threaded, I used my snap ring pliers because there are 4 little holes on top of the plastic ring to turn the ring out. I removed the ring, the 2nd rubber over the plunger, the plunger itself and the spring, then re soaked my carb. (the 1st time I soaked, I only soaked 3/4 of the carb because I did not know how to remove the plunger at 1st) End result, my scooter is running!! Next, a good maintenance and make it ready for the road!

I find that it's easier get a can of carb cleaner.. and use a blow gun.. or compressed air in a can if you don't have a compressor. Cause the most important thing is getting the passages clean. remove all the jets and spray cleaner in there and blow air through.. and don't do that to the diaphragm or the float bowl gasket.. just wipe them.
