Hi, I live in Surrey BC Canada, a suburb of Vancouver, and I own 2 1982 CV-80`s, called Belugas up here. Mine are both red, ones a runner, the other I got from a buddy for parts. I suppose I`m not your typical scooter rider, as I drag race cars, and my Beluga is mainly used as a "pit bike", for riding around the pit area of the various tracks I go to. So far the scooter has been cruising the pits in BC, Washigton, Oregon, and California. Anyhow, I have a few questions.
1rst off, I have some electrical issues. The electric start doesn`t work at all, sometimes the headlight works, sometimes it doesn`t (Usually at night!), when I attempt to operate the turn signals, the actual signals don`t work, but the taillight pulses. Any ideas?
2nd, where is the air filter, and how do you get to it? I did find a black rubber hose at the carb, so I assume the filter must be nearby, but the hose is so stiff, I am afraid to pry it off, for fear of spliting it or breaking it off.
3rd, my "parts" Beluga was obtained because it also had a non functioning electric starter, and then the kick start stopped working. The kick start lever got stiff and notchy, now it just seems to not be turning anything under the cover. Is this a common problem? If so, a big job?
When I went to my local Yamaha dealer, I got the impression that factory available replacement parts are virtually non existant.Other than spark plugs and "Yamalube" 2 stroke oil, it seems not much is available. Is there any aftermarket suppliers, or is used the only option? Thanks.

Just a few things to start you off; a test light is your best friend. You can trouble shoot circuits to elimnate a lot of guess work.
Your bikes ground wire is connected to your crankcase...make sure the ground is good. If your starter isnt operating could be a bad ground. As for your turn signals, run a second ground to your frame, if its a faulty ground then they should work. You can use your test light to trouble shoot the wiring and signal switch. ( I ran a second ground for my signal lights to work before i started to disssect some bad wiring).
Their are quite a few oem parts available but they can be pricey. Besides ebay, here are a few places, some carry what others list as obselete; things like a new belt can be had from powersportsplus. Northwest vintage cycle carries the turn signal switch and starter switch. Bike bandit also carries some stock. the cycle barn on ebay carries some used parts.
